The 3R Project

The College of Europe in Natolin carried out its flagship “Three Revolutions” (3R) project between 2016 and 2024. Hosted within the European Civilization Chair, the project involved dozens of leading academics, experts, politicians, diplomats, soldiers, and clergymen, who participated in or closely observed the making of contemporary Ukrainian history.

The first phase of the project analysed the ongoing situation in Ukraine in the light of the three most significant protests that occurred in Ukraine since 1990: the Revolution on Granite (1990), the Orange Revolution (2004-2005), and the Euromaidan or Revolution of Dignity (2013-2014).

In 2022, the project entered a second phase, when it investigated the relationships – causes, consequences, conditions, and circumstances – between these revolutions, the full-scale war waged by Russia against Ukraine, and the wider problem of the end of the post-Soviet world.

The 3R project’s double legacy to those who seek to understand the contemporary history of Ukraine comprises its publications – four volumes to date – and its archive of oral testimonies and documentary sources. The latter can be accessed through this website.
